RUG CARE TIPS

Rug Care & Longevity: The Art of Maintenance

A handcrafted rug is more than just decor it is an investment in artistry. Whether it is made of our premium New Zealand wool or a custom blend, every piece is built to last. Respect the craft, and your rug will keep turning heads for years to come.

1. Arrival & Setup

  • Creases? Relax. Any folds or waves from shipping are temporary. Lay your rug flat in its new home, and gravity will do the heavy lifting. Most creases settle completely in about one week.

  • The Scent of Purity. Our rugs are crafted from natural fibers. You may notice a slight "earthy" scent upon opening; this is a mark of authentic materials and will dissipate quickly with normal airflow.

2. Routine Upkeep

  • Treat it Like Art. Keep it clean and respect the fibers. Avoid dragging heavy, sharp-edged furniture across the pile to preserve the integrity of the hand-woven weave.

  • Vacuum, Don’t Wrestle. A gentle vacuuming once a week keeps the grain looking fresh. Use a suction-only setting or a vacuum with a soft brush head. Avoid heavy-duty beater bars or stiff brushes think of it as a "fresh fade," not a "buzz cut."

  • Shedding Happens. Just like fresh ink peels, a new rug may shed a small amount of loose fibers at first. Don’t panic this is 100% natural for high-quality wool and will stop on its own over time.

3. Spills & Spot Cleaning

  • Spot Clean, Don’t Soak. If a spill occurs, act fast. Dab the area with a clean, dry white cloth to soak up the liquid. Never rub, as this pushes the spill deeper into the fibers.

  • Mild is Best. Use a small amount of mild detergent mixed with lukewarm water. Dab gently with a damp cloth.

  • Never Drown It. Natural fibers are resilient but hate being soaked. Never submerge your rug in water or throw it in a washing machine.

4. Professional Care

  • Leave it to the Pros. For deep cleaning or stubborn stains, we recommend Professional Rug Cleaning only.

  • Rotate for Wear. Every six months, rotate your rug 180 degrees. This ensures even wear and prevents sun-fading in specific spots, keeping the entire piece vibrant.

The Artisan Promise:

Every rug we produce is hand-made and unique. Slight variations in shade, texture, and weave are not flaws they are the signature of the human hand and the natural origin of the materials.
